In a proactive move to address the persistent flooding challenge in Onikanga Community, the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area, under the leadership of Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun, convened a strategic stakeholders’ engagement with representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment Office of Drainages.
The engagement, held at the affected Onikanga axis, brought together key government officials, technical experts, and community leaders to deliberate on the technical framework and implementation strategy of the proposed drainage construction aimed at mitigating flood hazards in the area.
Present at the meeting were the Leader of the House, Hon. Bamidele Farooq; the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Ahmad Yusuf; the Ward Councillor, Hon. Babayeju Samuel; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Ajose Babatunde; the Council Engineer Engr. Oyekunle ; and the Public Affairs Officer, Mrs. Gbinigie Abidemi Oreoluwa.

Community stakeholders in attendance included the CDA Chairman alongside other community leaders and residents.
The meeting focused on addressing the long-standing flood hazards affecting Onikanga Road, Surulere Area, and Adeola Kareem Street. Engineers from the Ministry provided detailed technical explanations on the design, structural scope, and sustainability measures of the drainage project, assuring residents that the construction will meet professional engineering standards to ensure a lasting solution.
Residents actively engaged in the session, raising concerns and seeking clarifications regarding the project timeline and long-term effectiveness. All questions were comprehensively addressed, reinforcing confidence in the success of the intervention.
Community leaders expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Hon. Babajide Sanwo-Olu , and the Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA for responding to a challenge that has affected the community for many years.
The stakeholders’ engagement reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, technical due diligence, and collaborative problem-solving in delivering sustainable infrastructural solutions across Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
