The Deputy Leader of the House supports the Leader in coordinating legislative activities, maintaining order, and guiding the direction of the House. The office assists in managing proceedings, ensuring effective debate, and promoting cooperation among members to advance the legislative agenda.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Leader in planning and coordinating legislative business
- Supports the management of debates, motions, and deliberations
- Facilitates communication between members and leadership
- Acts on behalf of the Leader when delegated or in the Leader’s absence
- Helps ensure compliance with rules, standing orders, and legislative procedures
- Contributes to policy discussions and strategic decision-making
The Deputy Leader strengthens legislative efficiency by providing leadership support, ensuring continuity, and helping to maintain order and productivity during House sessions.
